BIP Board Update

October 2024

We are thrilled about the progress our Bainbridge Island Pickleball (BIP) Board has achieved over the past six months. Our hard work has led to numerous exciting developments that we can't wait to share. This summer has been filled with highlights, including a successful Open Play season that welcomed many new faces, a fantastic Founders Tournament, and, most importantly, countless laughs and friendships formed.

As we look ahead, we have three key goals in mind: completing the conversion of the lower courts to pickleball-only, developing covered courts, and establishing an official membership base.

We are proud to announce that BIP is now officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization. This designation allows us to receive tax-exempt contributions, meaning that donors can deduct their gifts on their income tax returns. Additionally, it grants us public recognition of our tax-exempt status, which is beneficial for securing grants, providing assurance to potential donors regarding the deductibility of their contributions, and even offers exemptions from certain federal excise taxes and nonprofit mailing privileges.

What does this mean for us? We can now launch a fundraising campaign aimed at building covered courts. Keep an eye out for information on how you can contribute or assist with this initiative.

Lower Court Conversion Update:

Clay and his committee have been diligently working on converting the lower courts to pickleball-only. We are pleased to report that we have received 72% of the pledged donations, which will enable us to begin this project. If you pledged and haven't yet donated, we are still counting on your support. Click here to donate! Unfortunately, we are dependent on the completion of BI Parks and Recreation's new Sakai Tennis Courts before we can proceed. Given the need for reliable sunny weather, we anticipate the conversion will take place in Spring 2025. Exciting developments are on the horizon!

Covered Courts Update:

On October 19th, BIP presented the idea for 12 covered pickleball courts to be located at Strawberry Hill Park to the BI Parks Board Commissioners. The Parks Board agreed to start conversations with Parks Staff about next steps. We anticipate engaging in discussions with the BI Parks District and the broader community to explore how a facility of this nature can benefit Bainbridge. At present, we do not have concrete plans, only preliminary ideas. This marks the initial phase of an ongoing dialogue, and we are enthusiastic about the potential opportunities ahead.
